CHICAGO… Teen Edition!

My good friend (and theater educator), Kiara Downey, and I were back at it with a fresh, spring muscial production of Chicago (Teen Edition)! From graphic design and production coordination, to suit sourcing and wig pinning, no job was off the table when it came to helping the students of Cate School bring that RAZZLE DAZZLE!

Director’s Note

Chicago is a musical teeming with glitz and glamor. It is also a show about “violence, greed and corruption.” This juxtaposition creates exciting opportunities for both cast and crew to play with moments of intense emotion and lighthearted frivolity. The team that is bringing this production of Chicago to Cate’s Hitchcock Theater has leaned into the challenge of reimagining one of Broadway’s longest running musicals with dedication and ingenuity.

Choreographers are telling the story through marvelous dance and movement, tech crews are finding inventive ways to celebrate the shadowy underworld and the dizzying spectacle, and performers are bringing Razzle Dazzle to every scene.

Musicals require intense collaboration and it has been a joy to share this project with so many talented individuals. We spent long hours in rehearsals, but time flew by as the show emerged from endless spreadsheets, buckets of paint, racks of costumes and countless bags of feathers.

We will all be happy to sleep a bit next week, but we will miss our escape into the world of jazz and pageantry. We hope that our efforts bring you “a show that’s so splendiferous, row after row will grow vociferous.”

Welcome to Chicago!
