Jane Johnson for the Home Shopper

WORLD PREMIERE! Jane Johnson for the Home Shopper is an original musical comedy that takes place over the span of one hour of Jane and her partner Pam Heller selling their accessories on the Home Shopper network, a channel not unlike QVC. The show is a fictional adaptation of the story of Jeanne Bice, founder of QVC’s novelty sweater empire “The Quacker Factory,” and its video components and set design mimic the gently persuasive tone of the Home Shopping Network. The show features original songs, improvised calls from viewers at home, and sweetly aggressive marketing techniques. The message is the same as Jane’s call to her fans: “Little Turtle, it’s time to come out of that shell!”

Jane (played in drag by Shane O’Neill) and Pam (played in butch drag by Jill Pangallo) of Mishepaqueniquamowoc, Wisconsin have been friends since childhood, but when Jane’s husband dies of a heart attack the same week that Pam’s husband leaves her for another man, they need to depend on each other like never before. They end up making extra cash by crafting “Jane’s Illusions,” small accessories that “Get you what God forgot to get you.” What began as a table set up outside of their church selling Jane’s clip-in hair accessories, has become a multi-million dollar empire with a loyal fan base of “Clipperchicks,” Jane’s nickname for the largely-Midwestern women who love her fun and festive aesthetic.

Gray Space at SFX presents "Mediocre & Loving It"

Gray Space (part of the Special Effects Festival) is an evening of new works and works-in-progress from the Contemporary Performance network revealing radical experiments in performance. From young makers breaking into and out of the performance scene, this evening event brings together vital forces that are shaping the next frontier of performativity. Existing between the black box of experimental theatre and the white rooms of the art museum, gray spaces explore the marginal zones of performance.

In "Mediocre and Loving It!" Jill Pangallo shares valuable tips and tricks to save you from your own self-perpetuated misery. Part stand-up, part storytelling, part Ted Talk, Mediocre and Loving It! is a raw, humorous look at smartphone dating apps, social media hysteria and the ever-increasing cult of self-appointed experts. Come see Jill now, before she sells out banquet rooms in major hotel chains across the country!
